LAW of the KINGDOM – sound design

LAW of the KINGDOM is animation made in drama/dystopian fiction genre. When I saw this animation for the first time it instantly reminded me three things. The first thing was China where I visited friends of mine a year ago. The second was the era between years 1948 and 1989.

During this time was Czech Republic, where I was born, under control of Soviet Union and especially after year 1968 when Warsaw Pact troop entered Czechoslovakia and remained until the collapse of Soviet Union in 1989. In this era was governmental censorship of printing, television and music. It was not exception that people went to a jail for possessing of forbidden literature or gramophone discs with Western music. The third thing was the film 1984 based on a book of George Orwell. The story talks about how we give up our essential liberty and let the government control us for our feel of safety.

The problem begins when the government has all the control in its hands, and nobody wants to fight with them because ordinary people are like David who wants to fight with big Goliath. In Bible David wins over Goliath but in the real world at this time when everything is monitored via security cameras is not that simple, and we are slowly going into totality society controlled by Big Brother like it was captured in the film 1984.

Great example is the China who is investing astronomical amount of money into monitoring system to spy and control their people. With their ‘Social Credit’ Monitoring Tool whey have all the power over the Chinese people and if they will don’t behave in a favour of Chinese communistic party they will lose their credits and it will mean for them for example that they won’t be able to travel first class on the train, travel abroad, or give their child to a private school. If any Chinese citizen says something against Chinese government, it causes problems for them and nobody from general public is defending them because it would cause problems for them as well.

As this theme connects to my family as they lived in the time when Soviet Union controlled them and as it is still actual because what is happening in China and some other countries, I decided to choose this animation.
